What Is Your Personal Protection Of Choice?
The first and foremost personal protection that I carry with me 24/7 is my mind - my awareness, knowledge, gut instincts, education, and training to be able to protect and defend myself in certain situations. Then I always carry on my person a TASER C2 and Pepper Spray on my keychain. I hope I never have use any of my personal protection, but having it with me gives me a bit more confidence that I have the tools necessary to protect and defend myself.
This is what my TASER C2 looks like. I know a criminal is not going to want to know what this feels like.
Watch this video of someone who got hit by a TASER. He lets you know you don’t want to "Take That TASER."

I keep one of the Pepper Spray units on my keychain, one in my car, and the larger one in my home near the front door in case of a forced intrusion.
With personal robbery crimes, carjackings, sexual attacks, personal assaults on the rise, we should be mentally, physically, and personally prepared to defend ourselves against a criminal attack.
If you have not encountered any type of personal crime, now is a good time to become well-prepared by taking a self-defense and/or personal safety awareness class. No one wants to be a victim of crime but if you shrug it off and say it won’t happen to you - you are potentially setting yourself up to become a victim of crime.
A perpetrator can spot the person who has let their guard down, who isn’t paying attention to what is going on, and appears to be an "easy" victim. Don’t be that person! Lately there have been more attacks on women in the parking lots of some large super stores and shopping malls. Although they have good lights and some even have surveillance cameras, if you are not paying attention, someone can quickly and easily force you into your vehicle or into their vehicle with no recourse from you. Self-Defense & Safety Awareness Tips
This is an article I posted sometime last year but as always a reminder of Self-Defense & Safety Awareness Tips can’t hurt if it keeps us safe!
Fighting Back
It’s important to have a plan in the event of an attack. Build your confidence by taking a self-defense class – it will empower you with the skills to defend yourself.
• Yell forcefully, “No! Go Away! I don’t want trouble! Back Off! No! No!”
• Go for the nose with the heel of your hand.
• Go for the groin with your elbows and knees.
If you have been raped and want to do something about it, find a rape crisis center or friends who can support you.
Resources
RAINN (Rape Abuse and Incest National Network)
Call RAINN 24-hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673).
Trust Your Instincts
• Don’t be fooled by appearance – rapists don’t always look dangerous.
• If you feel like you’re being pressured, coerced, dismissed or ignored, act on that feeling and remove yourself from the situation.
• Don’t be afraid to make waves.
• Realize that men misinterpret women, so send clear verbal and non-verbal messages.
Since I mentioned instincts, a friend of mine highly recommended this book - “The Gift of Fear: Survival Signals That Protect Us From Violence” by Gavin De Becker. He talks almost exclusively about our instincts and how listening to and trusting that little voice inside of us - our "gut feeling" can help us to stay safe from violence - and could just save our life.

Let’s Talk About Designing Your Home Security Protection
Step 1 To Becoming Proactive In Your Home Security Plan - "Let’s Talk About Designing Your Home Security Protection."
In my Home Invasion Prevention 2009 Training Program there are 7-steps that I lay out for homeowners to avoid becoming a victim of a home invasion robbery. The first step is what we are going to talk about tonight.
Too many people put off protecting their home and family with a professionally installed and monitored security system for understandable reasons, e.g. the cost, got a dog, got a gun, afraid they will set off the alarm and have the police come, false alarms, and on and on.
However, your security alarm system can be your best friend! If you treat your friend right and learn how to use it properly, it will do exactly what you want it to do.
Would you like to know what that is??
- Your security alarm system (friend) will let you know if there has been a break-in or intrusion into your home.
- Your security alarm system (friend) will also make a lot of noise to let the scumbag (whoops..sorry) intruder know that he has set off your alarm system and to get the heck out of there!
- Your security alarm system (friend) will immediately contact the security monitoring professionals who will get the police to your home right away…potentially saving your life from a violent home invasion attacker.
Now tell me this, where can you find a friend like that? Most people would gladly pay for a friend like that. I will show you how your security system investment doesn’t have to be thousands of dollars - but how you can get your protection started for a very reasonable investment! Plus I have some great bonuses to tell you about.
If you spend your hard earned cash on a cell phone, cable TV, and/or an internet bill, I know how much you must pay. You’ll be glad to see what a great value paying for something that actually protects the two most important things you have - your home and especially your family! That will give you real peace of mind!!
Don’t be one of those people that I hear and read about who wakes up in the middle of the night to an intruder looking down at him while being totally defenseless. It is absolutely crazy in our dire economic times as crime steadily increases not to protect your home and family and avoid becoming a home invasion victim - or worse yet a deadly crime statistic!
Join our show Wednesday, March 4, 2009 either by telephone at (646) 727-3396 or listen online at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/letstalkhomesecurity.
If you miss the show, you can listen to it later. At the top of the site in the center is a Let’s Talk Home Security radio button that will have this show archived so you can still listen to it. Just find the show date and press play.

There have been several abduction attempts and carjacking crimes that have occurred in our small city within the last few weeks. In a city of less than 100,000 people this is definately not a common crime, but it is one that has many people very concerned. Here is one of the recent headlines:
Courtesy of the South Bend Tribune
In wake of abduction attempts, how can shoppers protect themselves?
MISHAWAKA — In addition to the abduction of a 19-year-old girl on Tuesday, police want to know if Michael Lindsey is connected to two other attempted abductions earlier in the day. All three of incidents happened in broad daylight, in parking lots.
So we headed to Meijer with Mishawaka police Lt. Tim Williams to see what women were doing right and wrong.
One woman was watching at all times and had her purse by her side.
"It’s next to her, so she has it … she’s not worried about her cart, where it’s going; but she has her purse on her, she’s keeping her purse with her … when she came out she was looking around," Lt. Williams observed.
"Don’t roll your window down," he continued. "If you’re not in your car try and get in your car as quick as possible.

It Can Happen Anywhere And To Anyone
• Though carjackings can occur anytime, a sizeable share appear to take place during the late night hours.
• Carjacking isn’t just a problem in large cities – it happens in suburbs, small towns, and rural areas.
• Carjackers look for opportunity. They don’t choose victims by sex, race, or age.
What Do Carjackers Look For And What Should You Do To Avoid Being A Victim?
Areas that carjackers target are: intersections controlled by traffic lights or stops lights, parking garages, shopping malls, grocery stores, gas stations, car washes, ATM machines, residential driveways, highway exit and entry ramps.
- Be alert to your surroundings, even when you feel rushed.
When approaching your car, have your key in your hand, and check the back seat before you get in. - If someone is loitering near your unoccupied car as you approach it, keep walking until the person leaves.
- Be wary of people asking for directions or handing out flyers. Trust your instincts – if something makes you feel uneasy, get into your car quickly, lock the doors and drive away.
- Avoid driving alone. Have someone with you especially at night.
- When you come to a stop, leave enough space to maneuver around other cars.
- In extreme situations you might even consider going through a traffic light, as long as you can do so without causing an accident.
- Don’t stop to assist a stranger whose car has broken down. Instead, drive to the nearest phone or use your cell phone to call the police for help.
- If you are driving home and notice someone you don’t recognize loitering, drive around the block and come back after the person has left.
- Avoid parking near anything that limits your visibility.
- Most importantly – If a carjacker threatens you with a gun or other weapon, give up your car. Don’t’ argue. Your life is worth far more than a car!
- If someone takes your car, get away from the areas as quickly as you can. Try to remember what the carjacker looked like and report the crime immediately to the police. You might consider carrying some type of personal protection on your keychain like pepper spray or mace spray, or even a stun gun or TASER C2. As I have mentioned in many of my articles, taking a self-defense or safety awareness training class can teach you what to do and how to protect and defend yourself against these types of criminal attacks. Check with your local law enforcement to see if they have self-defense training classes available.
Stay Aware…Stay Alert…Stay Alive!!
