FBI Says Violent Crimes On The Decline…Ask The Crime Victims What They Think!!
In our newspaper today there is a big article that starts out "Violent Crimes On The Decline", the FBI says murder, rapes, and robberies are down nationwide in ‘07. I’m not sure what planet the person who wrote the article is on but we continue to hear about women of all ages who are being attacked, sexually assaulted and murdered every week. I wonder sometimes if we are all becoming immune to this type of news coverage.
If, and that’s a big IF, crime is on the decline, maybe it is because women are starting to take charge of their personal safety and becoming trained in how to protect and defend themselves with self-defense training and personal security and safety awareness classes. Many women and young ladies are also carrying personal protection - from non-lethal devices like the awesome Taser C2 or pepper spray gun to carrying a firearm. Women are also becoming well-trained in how to use these weapons-knowing that it is their responsibility to only use these weapons if their life is truly in a life-threatening situation.

My specialty is in the personal security field. I regularly blog about self-defense strategies and safety awareness for women, personal security 911 awareness, home burglary prevention, and home security protection. I do a lot of research and talk with people in the crime prevention and security industry to learn about what strategies and tactics work to help women and men avoid becoming victims of crime - and live to tell about it. Lipstick + A Pitbull = Kick-A Protection
Dudes that are looking to attack women better be thinking twice now - especially when that woman has a pitbull + lipstick. Women are becoming more and more empowered with their own abilities to persevere against the worst situation. And that includes being attacked by some low-life predator who has nothing better to do then pick on defenseless women and other innocent citizens.
Women are learning how to protect and defend themselves by taking self-defense classes and becoming much more aware of their surroundings by attending safety awareness classes. They are also resorting to non-lethal but highly effective personal protection devices to fend off low-life predators.
So look out dudes - you may just get some lipstick right in your face!!!

Self-Defense-Defending Against A Sucker Punch Attack
Being aware not only of your surroundings but the people around you is so important. Michael Pace is a self-defense expert who does an outstanding job of providing self-defense instruction videos for women…and men. One of the self-defense tips he gives is about the sucker punch. He says when a perpetrator is about to throw a sucker punch there are some signs that the punch is about to come your way. If you are observant and knowledgeable, you may be able to block the punch and give the attacker an element of surprise. And that surprise is being able to defensively fight back enough to disable the attacker and get away to safety.
If you are in an aggressive confrontation with someone, be sure to watch and see if their right (or left) shoulder drops back slightly. This could be a clear signal that they are getting ready to throw a sucker punch. If you are observant, this may give you enough time to prepare and defend against the incoming punch by throwing your left (or right) arm up to meet the punch. Then you can go into action to quickly defend yourself.
Knowing what to look for and how to react is part of "being prepared." Michael Pace has some excellent self-defense training DVD’s for women. Checkout his website at www.womens-self-defense.com for more information.

Survival Facts From Dr. Ruthless - A Lady With A Kickass Attitude
When you read information about women who have made self-defense initiatives for women their life’s work, it is inspiring to realize that there are options for women to stay safe (and stay alive) when confronted by an attacker. When you know how to fight and defend yourself against a predator, you no longer have to live in fear!
Dr. Ruthless (Melissa Soat), self-defense/black belt expert, teaches self-defense and speaks to audiences of women and men about overall self-defense techniques, awareness strategies, and how learning these skills can give you a tremendous sense of empowerment and self-confidence. I have seen Dr. Ruthless’ self-defense videos and she is one "tough" fighter. If all options are exhausted and you must fight for your life - fight back with explosive power and find that "ballistic" alter ego inside that refuses to become a victim of some predator’s assault, attack, or worse..murder. Your Personal Safety Weapons - Tip of the Week
Are you knowledgeable in martial arts training? Have you taken any type of self-defense class? Has your business or company provided you with security and safety awareness training? Chances are that not many of you have had any self-defense type training.
The following video is our Tip of the Week talking about "Your Personal Safety Weapons." For someone with no defensive training or education, this video will show you that you already possess personal safety weapons right on your body. You just need to know how and when to use them.
As always, my recommendation would be to take a self-defense class in your community to learn how to defend and protect yourself in an attack situation. These classes are usually 4-6 weeks and 1-3 hours a class. This is a short timeframe when you consider how effective this training could be to you - if you had to use it!

Top (5) Personal Safety Tips On Staying Safe and Alive!
Everyday we get up and go about our daily lives and activities without even giving a second thought to our personal safety. In reality, we shouldn’t have to because personal safety should be a part of our being. It should be second nature…a habit that we don’t even have to think about it. We should instinctively know that our personal safety, as well as those we care about, is a high priority no matter what business we are in, what we do, or where we live - from the safest, small community to the largest, most crime-ridden city.
There’s an old adage that many women think concerning violence and crime and that is, “It won’t happen to me.” Either they say, “I’m too big to be raped,” “I’m married and live in a safe area” or “I’m way too old, no one is going to rape me.” That very thinking usually comes about because it hasn’t happened to them, but they are still at risk and at any given time it could happen to them. If you go through life without considering the possibility that a sexual assault crime could happen…then what will you do if it does? You need to be prepared and ready in the event that somebody does try (at some point) to attack you. Read more
Keeping Her Wits About Her and Awareness Saved Her Life! (Part I)
It was August of last year that Cidney Smith, IUPUI student, and a friend of my son was carjacked and kidnapped outside an upscale mall parking lot in Indianapolis. Luckily, Cidney kept her wits about her and was able to ultimately escape before her kidnapper could do any major harm to her.
One thing Cidney said that actually helped her know what to do to save her life was something she had seen on an Oprah show. There was a self-defense security expert and victims of crime on the show discussing what to do if you are attacked, assaulted, or kidnapped. She remembered some of the things the expert and victims had said to do and she did them.
What a brave young lady. Most women without any knowledge of what to do in a situation like this would tend to give up or do something to cause the attacker or kidnapper to do grave harm to them.
Here is an excerpt of the events that happened to Cidney on that horrible day in Indianapolis. It is my belief that self-defense, safety awareness, and knowledge of how to protect yourself if attacked or assaulted can ultimately save your life as it did for Cidney. Read more

Victim: CASTLETON SQUARE MALL. AND THEN WHERE? AND THEN WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Victim: YOU GOING TO KEEP MY RED VOLKSWAGEN? OKAY, YOU JUST GOT TO PUT YOUR FOOT ON THE CLUTCH.

Simulation Night For Our RAD Self-Defense Class
Tonight - Tuesday, 3-25-08 - was the last of our RAD Self-Defense class held at the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department in Elkhart, Indiana. (Although I was able to videotape some of the ladies in class, I forgot that we are not able to put the videos on youtube or our website). The last night is known as "simulation". This is where you have scenario-type situations set up in which you will be attacked by a perpetrator. The ladies in this class seemed pretty excited about our last night…maybe even a little apprehensive because we were all unsure of exactly what would happen and how we would respond using the self-defense techniques we learned over the last (3) weeks. Prevent A Crime By Having A Safety Plan In Place - Part I
By Susan Bartelstone, Crime Prevention and Personal Safety Specialist
A number of years ago, I read an article written by an FBI instructor which stated that if a person could respond quickly, within 20–30 seconds from the moment they first perceived danger, that encounter could probably be resolved favorably.
Oh boy, did this make sense to me! Over the years up to that point, I’d had six dangerous criminal encounters—and I’m talking being surrounded by a group of guys in an isolated location (twice), having a knife pulled out on me when I intervened between a frightened teenager and some guy trying to pick her up, and confrontations of that nature. In five of those six encounters, I prevented the crime from happening, or defused the situation, and got away without any violence. Only once did I have to fight, and that was because I got jumped by a guy crouched down between two parked cars and was taken by surprise (yes, I prevented the rape). Read more
