When I give presentations to groups of ladies on personal safety and security awareness, one of the things I discuss is that your personal security starts at home. That’s why your home should be a safe haven where you feel protected from the criminal elements.  Many women are only concerned about their personal security and safety when they are away from home…at the mall, driving in their car, at work, or when out alone in the evening.

Your personal security should be about developing a safety plan and habits of how to stay safe all the time. That means being aware of your surroundings whether you are home or away and alert to any type of situation that appears strange or gives you an uncomfortable feeling like something isn’t quite right.  When that happens, that’s your "gut feeling" or your "intuition" possibly giving you danger signals so listen to those signals and get away from that situation as quickly as you can.

Take for instance the lady -young or old - who enjoys jogging or walking in her neighborhood.  She gets up every morning and starts her jog or walk first thing.  Over the last few months the sun has been up at about 6:00 a.m. - so this would appear be a good time to jog. However, as the time has started to change, it stays darker longer in the mornings and it is getting darker earlier in the evening.

Be especially observant when out  jogging or walking late in the evening or taking your dog out late at night for his/her last break.  No matter if your neighborhood is considered a fairly safe area, it is still a good idea to be on guard and alert to what’s going on when out by yourself.  If you are complacent about your personal security and safety, it’s that one time you let your guard down when you are jogging or walking  ...you know chatting on the phone or listening to your MP3 player, that you could miss a danger signal and become a victim of an attack.  Read more

If You Come Face To Face With An Evil, Violent Predator - Be Prepared To Fight For Your Life!

Back in the old days women were told if faced with a confrontation, physical attack, or sexual assault from a male prepetrator  – don’t fight back you’ll only inflame the guy and that will make him madder and meaner.  You were told to try and reason with the attacker – try to negotiate your way out of being raped or brutally beaten up -   unfortunately many women were still violently murdered.

Not Today Ladies!!! You need to consider that there has been an increase in violent crimes and assaults against women – both young and old – in record numbers all across our country.  And what are women doing to protect themselves from this offensive crime?

Women of all ages are starting to stand up and say “WE’RE NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE" and they are learning how to defend and protect themselves.  Women are becoming skilled in self-defense and safety awareness techniques and finding that inner female warrior that says, I’m not going to become a crime victim of some perpetrator’s whim!!” .   Read more

The Ultimate Personal Protector - Taser C2!!!

If you have followed my blog for any time, you know I recommend carrying some type of personal protection device - like pepper spray, mace, stun gun, or a Taser C2 - the ultimate personal protector!.

Unless you have been tazed…you may not realize that this little device can knock the socks off of a predator..an attacker..or person assaulting another.  And guess what…they deserve it!   The Taser C2 is a non-lethal device that is meant to stun and/or disable a predator or attacker enough for the victim to get away to safety and contact the police.

Here is a video of a young man who ran from the law and finally ended up feeling the full force of the Taser.   This young man is being very truthful in letting other potential criminals know the full effect and full force of the Taser.  Listen to his recommendation on whether to fight the law or fight the Taser….

If you already have a Personal Safety Plan then you know how important it is to be prepared and know what to do if confronted by an attacker.  Having self-defense skills and knowledge are a great part of the plan, but if you are dealing with someone who is totally bent on doing you grave harm, you want that secondary backup - and that is where the Taser C2 can be your ultimate personal protector.  If you decide to carry a Taser C2, be sure to become properly trained in knowing how to use the device.  You will receive a training DVD from Taser which gives excellent instructions.  Practice using your Taser.  That way you know exactly what to do if a situation arises where you must use it.  Also check with your local city/county/state to be sure it is legal to carry within your area.

NOTE:   Isn’t it ironic that YOU are trying to keep yourself safe and protect yourself from the criminal element who wants to assault/rape/attack or kill you, and the only way to protect yourself is by self-defense measures or using personal protection devices…and the LAW in some states say that personal protection devices are illegal to use.  I wonder who they are trying to protect!!  The criminal or the innocent????

Safety Tips For Staying Alive in Parking Garages & Mall Lots! (Part 2)

Safety Tips for Staying Alive in Public Parking Garages-Mall Parking Lots

For violent crimes, parking garages and lots are ranked second after crimes committed on residential property. Specifically, in parking garages, dim lighting combined with several parked vehicles make it easy for criminals to hide.

As you are walking to your car in a public parking garage, remember where you parked your car.  Keep the parking level information handy to make it easy to find your car.  As you approach your car be aware of others who may be lingering nearby.  This is a perfect time for a criminal predator to be waiting for an unconscious victim as she walks to her car while looking in her purse for car keys, talking on a cell phone, or juggling packages totally unaware of what is going on around her. Realtor Fights Off Attacker In House - South Bend, IN

This past weekend there was an incident where a realtor (female) was attacked by her prospect.  As I have written about on many occasions - it doesn’t matter that you live in a small community like South Bend, Indiana where crime may not be as prevalent as in the larger cities - but crime still happens!  And these criminals are looking for the avenue of least resistance.  Realtors are considered a high risk profession and they need to do everything they can to ensure that their personal safety is one of their highest priorities.

That means ensuring you have a Safety Plan that includes taking self-defense training to learn simple, yet effective defensive techniques and tactics that will enable you to protect and defend yourself against an attacker.
