Just (2) postings ago I had talked about Parking Garage/Mall Parking Safety Tips.  Two of the most vulnerable places for an attack or assault to happen is in a deserted parking garage or a shopping mall parking lot late in the evening.  If you use city parking garages, be aware and be alert at all times. Realtor Fights Off Attacker In House - South Bend, IN

This past weekend there was an incident where a realtor (female) was attacked by her prospect.  As I have written about on many occasions - it doesn’t matter that you live in a small community like South Bend, Indiana where crime may not be as prevalent as in the larger cities - but crime still happens!  And these criminals are looking for the avenue of least resistance.  Realtors are considered a high risk profession and they need to do everything they can to ensure that their personal safety is one of their highest priorities.

That means ensuring you have a Safety Plan that includes taking self-defense training to learn simple, yet effective defensive techniques and tactics that will enable you to protect and defend yourself against an attacker. Also, take a personal safety awareness class that reviews and reiterates many realtor safety guidelines that are designed to promote everyday awareness to keep you safe.  Read more

Top (5) Personal Safety Tips On Staying Safe and Alive!

Everyday we get up and go about our daily lives and activities without even giving a second thought to our personal safety.  In reality, we shouldn’t have to because personal safety should be a part of our being.  It should be second nature…a habit that we don’t even have to think about it.  We should instinctively know that our personal safety, as well as those we care about, is a high priority no matter what business we are in, what we do, or where we live - from the safest, small community to the largest, most crime-ridden city.

There’s an old adage that many women think concerning violence and crime and that is, “It won’t happen to me.”  Either they say, I’m too big to be raped,”I’m married and live in a safe areaor “I’m way too old, no one is going to rape me.”  That very thinking usually comes about because it hasn’t happened to them, but they are still at risk and at any given time it could happen to them.  If you go through life without considering the possibility that a sexual assault crime could happen…then what will you do if it does?  You need to be prepared and ready in the event that somebody does try (at some point) to attack you. Personal Safety - Jobs That Put Women At Risk

Are you in a "high risk" job that affects your personal safety?  Over the next few weeks I will be talking with women in high risk jobs to find out how they deal with this risk day in and day out, and what they are doing to stay safe and avoid becoming a victim of crime.  Some of the professions women have that are considered high risk are Realtors, In-Home Sales Consultants, Nurses, and Attorney’s - to name a few.

In my personal safety training, one of the first things I recommend that women do to stay safe is develop a Personal Safety Plan.  As you become proactive in your personal safety it puts you totally in control.  (And when you lose control you lose period).  As part of the plan, I also suggest taking some kind of self-defense training (RAD Self-Defense is excellent) along with a safety awareness course.  With both types of training you becoming mentally and physically educated in how to protect and defend yourself against an attacker.  This will give you a tremendous amount of confidence and empowerment knowing you are in control.  I also discuss the use of non-lethal personal protection devices that women can carry to more positively fend off an attacker.

If you would like to comment about how you deal with your personal safety on the job, that would be great.  Sharing this type of information with others will help us all.  I will be posting my interviews to my website so be sure to sign up for my RSS feed or email.

Self-Defense and Safety Scenarios For Realtors

Safety Scenarios For Realtors - What Would You Do?

Courtesy of www.aaronline.com/forrealtors/safety/scenarios.aspx

The following scenarios are typical REALTOR® situations. Think about what would be your normal response, what possible dangers are indicated, and what you could do better to lessen the risks. Find the answers suggested by NAR at the end.

Scenario #1: Open House
You are hosting an open house by yourself on a winter day. As the sun is setting and you are locking up, a nicely dressed man pulls into the drive and quickly hops out of his car. He apologizes for coming so late and says that he is very glad to have arrived before you left.  He begs you to let him see the property as he has wanted to buy this style of home in this neighborhood for some time now. You had very few prospects visit the open house, so you would hate to miss this opportunity. What do you do? Read more

Beverly Fisher, Realtor - Discusses Realtor Safety Awareness

Beverly Fisher, Realtor, Century 21 Jim Dunfee Realty

Personal Security Solutions, the parent company of Self Defense With An Attitude, along with Linda Sokol from ADT Security, recently held a Realtor Safety Awareness Seminar for Century 21 Jim Dunfee Realty in South Bend, Indiana.  We discussed various safety awareness topics on how realtors can keep themselves safe while on the job, at home, on the road, and basically wherever they go.

Realtors are in a fairly high risk category just by the very nature of their job and our special guest, Beverly Fisher, Broker Associate, from Century 21 Jim Dunfee Realty, mentioned that in her testimonial video.  She said, “When you are working the front desk and get a call from someone (lots of times a complete stranger) who wants to meet with you right away, the first thing you do is bolt out to meet him.  And sometimes you don’t even tell anyone.”  In today’s world that is not always the safest thing to do.  Each real estate office should have specific forms for documenting prospective client data, addresses where the agent will be meeting the prospect, and pertinent information that might prove helpful if the agent comes up missing. Prevent A Crime By Having A Safety Plan In Place - Part I

By Susan Bartelstone, Crime Prevention and Personal Safety Specialist

A number of years ago, I read an article written by an FBI instructor which stated that if a person could respond quickly, within 20–30 seconds from the moment they first perceived danger, that encounter could probably be resolved favorably.

Oh boy, did this make sense to me!   Over the years up to that point, I’d had six dangerous criminal encounters—and I’m talking being surrounded by a group of guys in an isolated location (twice), having a knife pulled out on me when I intervened between a frightened teenager and some guy trying to pick her up, and confrontations of that nature. In five of those six encounters, I prevented the crime from happening, or defused the situation, and got away without any violence. Only once did I have to fight, and that was because I got jumped by a guy crouched down between two parked cars and was taken by surprise (yes, I prevented the rape). Read more

Gutzy Self-Defense For Women-The Ultimate Palm Strike

Checkout Dr. Ruthless’ website @ www.dr-ruthless.com

This woman has definately got the self-defense moves, the self-defense techniques, and the gutziness to make me want to learn what she knows so I can add it to my safety plan of action.  I never want to be a victim of crime.  To be one step ahead of a predator, I want to know if attacked that I have the confidence, the fortitude, the know-how and the flat out strength and power to fight back with everything I have to survive!

When you think about it, why should some dirt-bag predator determine that your life is worth nothing and he has the right to take it from you…and your family.  Just the thought of that scenario should make women angry as all get out!!

Watch the self-defense palm strike moves in the video and learn them.   If attacked, this could be one of the ultimate weapons you effectively use to get away to safety.

Look at taking a good self-defense class - you know I highly recommend the RAD Self-Defense class.

Self-Defense Safety Plan - Do You Have One? You Should.

Check this video out about having a safety plan.  It has gone a little to the extreme, but it depicts the reality.  If you must rely upon 911 to get the authorities to you….you may spend minutes (which could seem like hours) on the phone just talking to a 911 operator. Time is of the essence….especially when your life is involved.  Do you have a Safety Plan of Action in place? If so, you will know what to do to ultimately save your life.  If you have a daughter, you will definately want to see this video.

First of all I would make ever effort to have a safety plan of action that involved the use of non-lethal forms of self-defense (ie., C2 Taser, stun gun, pepper spray gun, pepper spray/mace), plus a solid mental safety plan of action.

Some women have had situations in their life that may require them to carry a firearm for protection.  Whatever form of personal protection that you carry, be sure you are thoroughly trained in how to use that protection.

Remember, you cannot replace your life.  Use whatever form of protection you can to save your life …whether it be self-defense techniques to throw the predator off guard so you can quickly get away to safety or a legal–lethal form of protection, like a firearm.  Be sure if you carry a firearm that you have the required legal documents to justify.

You know how our legal eagles love to go after the victims of crime, especially when they turn the tables on the perpetrators.

Remember, Stay Aware…Stay Alert…Stay Alive!
