Suspect: I know you’re looking at the door knob.

This is a show from Oprah about escaping a carjacking.  Women please read and remember.  You never know when this information can ultimately save your life.

How to Escape a Carjacking

From the show What Should You Do?
Woman who escaped carjacker. Most carjackings happen in less than 15 seconds. Because they can quickly turn into physical assault or murder, it’s good to have strategies for escaping. Candice Delong, a former FBI agent, says that the key is to not panic. Here’s more of her advice:

Stay Calm. Stay Put.
If you can keep your wits about you, you’re more likely to save yourself. If at all possible, stay where you are. Do not allow yourself to be taken to a different location.

Know Your Car.
If you’re forced inside the trunk of your car, don’t lose hope. It’s a good idea to know where the emergency latch inside your trunk is (a mechanic can show you). If you can’t find it, you can pull out the taillight wires to call attention to the vehicle, or bash out the taillight and wiggle your fingers.

Don’t be Shy.
Some women have escaped carjackings when their assailants stopped at gas stations or other populated locations. If this happens, yell for help.

Remember, Stay Aware…Stay Alert…Stay Alive!
