Are you in a "high risk" job that affects your personal safety?  Over the next few weeks I will be talking with women in high risk jobs to find out how they deal with this risk day in and day out, and what they are doing to stay safe and avoid becoming a victim of crime.  Some of the professions women have that are considered high risk are Realtors, In-Home Sales Consultants, Nurses, and Attorney’s - to name a few.

In my personal safety training, one of the first things I recommend that women do to stay safe is develop a Personal Safety Plan.  As you become proactive in your personal safety it puts you totally in control.  (And when you lose control you lose period).  As part of the plan, I also suggest taking some kind of self-defense training (RAD Self-Defense is excellent) along with a safety awareness course.  With both types of training you becoming mentally and physically educated in how to protect and defend yourself against an attacker.  This will give you a tremendous amount of confidence and empowerment knowing you are in control.  I also discuss the use of non-lethal personal protection devices that women can carry to more positively fend off an attacker.

If you would like to comment about how you deal with your personal safety on the job, that would be great.  Sharing this type of information with others will help us all.  I will be posting my interviews to my website so be sure to sign up for my RSS feed or email.

Remember, Stay Aware…Stay Alert…Stay Alive!
